Choosing the right rug for your horse can be challenging, so we've taken the guesswork out!

During summer, a light breathable rug is ideal for keeping your horse clean, prevent their coats from bleaching and help protect them from insects. 

Summer rugs are commonly made of Ripstop Poly-cotton, Polyester Mesh and Flag material.

  • Ripstop poly-cotton is a popular material as it combines cotton's breathability with polyester added for durability and 'Ripstop'. Ripstop is a line of poly that prevent rugs from ripping further.
  • Mesh is also handy on hot, humid, and showery days as mesh fabric dries quickly. The holes in the mesh fabric allow the breeze to go through the rug.
  • Flag is one of the most popular choices in summer. The poly-cotton in flag material is lighter and thinner which is ideal in the warmer weather. However it is also less robust.
